열대 아프리카, 중남미, 동남아시아와 서구의 웬만한 나라들을 교차로 탐방하고 연구하면서, 열대학 (tropical studies)을 정립해 나갔다.
《열대의
서구, 朝鮮의 열대》에서 핵심 메시지 “서구의 예술과 학문은 열대를 은폐했다.”를 설파했다. 《自然史혁명의 선구자들》에서 自然史를 열대학과 서구사상사의 융합적 관점에서 논의했다. 《난학의
세계사》에서 일본, 열대, 네덜란드 사이의 문화융합을, 《파리식물원에서 데지마
박물관까지》에서 自然史가 서구적 근대의 형성에 미친 역할을 각각 규명했다. 《훔볼트
세계사 - 自然史혁명》은 동아시아에서 최초로 발간된, 훔볼트에 관한 저술이다. 《인류세와
기후위기의 大 가속》(엮음)에서 인문학, 사회과학, 자연학의 융합적 관점에서 지구 자연사를 탐구했다. 콩고를 여러 차례 다니면서
KOICA와 ‘인문사회연구회’[국무총리실 산하기관]의 지원을 받아 《콩고민주공화국의 지역학과 인문학의 융합적 탐구》를 썼다. 2023년에는 《의학·정치·돈》을 번역하였다.> 현재는 《아시아의 고려, 中華의 조선》(가제)을 집필하고 있는데, 이는
Planetary Global History의 관점에서 Planetary Korean History를 정립하려는 문제의식에 근거한다. 존스홉킨스대학에서
박사학위를 받았으며, 하버드대학과 하버드-옌칭연구소에서 안식년 연구를 했고, 영국 니담연구소와 웰컴 의학사연구소에서 연구했으며, 한국 사회사학회장을
맡았다. 아주대학교에서 정년을 마친 후에 현재 지구세계연구소장으로 다양한 융복합적 층 위에서의 연구를 수행하고 있다
He established tropical studies by exploring and studying tropical regions in
Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and numerous countries in the West. In The
Tropics in the Making of Western Identity" and "Locating Korea in Tropical
Studies, he conveyed a key message: "The art and study of the West concealed
the tropics." In Western Pioneers of the Natural History Revolution, he
discussed natural history from the perspective of the convergence between tropical
studies and Western thought.
The cultural convergence between Japan, the tropics, and the Netherlands in Tropicalizing Early Modern Japan's Rangaku: A World Geo-History
Perspective, and the role of natural history in the formation of Western
modernity in "From the Paris Botanic Garden to the Desjima Museum" were elucidated.
A
World History of Alexander von Humboldt: Interconnecting Natural and Human
History focuses on Humboldt and was initially published in East Asia. In
The
Anthropocene and Global Climate Crisis, he explored planet's natural history
from the perspective of the convergence of humanities, social sciences, and natural
sciences. While traveling to Congo several times, he wrote A Converged Exploration
of Regional Studies and Humanities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the
support of KOICA and the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and
Social Sciences (an affiliated organization of the Prime Minister's Office).
Currently, he is writing about Korea in Asia and Joseon in China, based on an
awareness of
the need to establish a Planetary Korean History from the perspective of Planetary
Global History. He earned his Ph.D from Johns Hopkins University, and he conducted
sabbatical research at Harvard University and the Harvard-Yenching Institute. He
also conducted research at the Nidam Research Institute and the Welcome Medical
History Institute in the UK, and served as the president of the Korean Social
History Institute. After reaching retirement age at Ajou University, he is currently
conducting research at various convergence levels as the head of the Global World
Research Institute.]

최근에 그는 탈중심화된 전지구적 맥락에서 한국과 영어권 의 모더니즘 시문학을 비교하는 데 초점을 맞추어 연구를 진행하고 있다. 이 기획의 일환으로 그는
원문비평 김기림 전집을 기획하여 제 1 권인 《원문비평, 김기림 시 전집》(연세대학교 출판문화원)을 곧 출간할 예정이며, 《지구적 세계문학》 잡지의

He earned his Ph.D. in English Literature from Texas A&M University. After working
as a professor of English at Ewha Women University, he is currently a professor of
English at Yonsei University where he teaches modern and contemporary poetry in
English and comparative world literatures. He is the author of Out of the Western Box: Towards a Multicultural Poetics in the
Poetry of Ezra Pound and Charles Olson and the co-author of
Post-Colonialism: Theories and Issues, Understanding
Anglo-American Poetry in the Postmodern Era and Understanding Modern and
Contemporary Women's Poetry, World Literature beyond Euro-Centrism in English,
editor and translator of Bridge across the Seas—Selected Poems of Niyi Osundare, and
translator of The World’s Wife, Trouble with Strangers: A Study of Ethics, Nationalism,
Colonialism, and
Literature, and The Illusions of Postmodernism, etc. Recently he has focused on
comparative studies in-between Korean and English modern/modernist poems in the
de-centralized global contexts. One of these projects is his forthcoming book—The
Complete Poems of Ki-Rim Kim (Vol 1 of The Complete Works of Ki-Rim Kim). Also, as
an editor of Global World Literature, he has translated and introduced various
writers from English-speaking countries. The Modern British and American Poetry

서울대학교 법과대학을 졸업하고, 사법시험 제 28회에 함격하였다. 사법연수원 18기를 수료한
후 충주에서 법률사무소를 개업하여 변호사 활동을 시작하였다. 1998년에 건국대학교에서 법학으로 석사학위를 취득 후 2001년부터 법과대학 민사법
겸임교수가 되었다. 2013년에 헌법학으로 박사학위를 받았다.
1990년대부터 생태환경문제에 관심을 가지기 시작하였다. 충주환경운동연합에 가입하여 사무국장을 역임하였다. 그후로도 다양한 생태환경 소송에 참여해서
시민사회의 환경보전을 위해 노력해왔다. 현재는 부천에서 변호사로 활동하고 있다.
He graduated from Seoul National University College of Law and passed the bar exam
in the 28th session. After completing the 18th class of the Judicial Research and
Training Institute, he opened a law firm in Chungju and began his career as a
lawyer. He earned a master's degree in law from Konkuk University in 1998 and became
an adjunct professor of civil law at the College of Law in 2001. He received his
doctorate in constitutional law in 2013.
He began to take an interest in ecological and environmental issues in the 1990s. He
joined the Chungju Environmental Movement Association and served as its secretary
general. Since then, he has participated in various ecological and environmental
lawsuits and has worked to preserve the environment for civil society. He is
currently a lawyer in Bucheon.

He earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Oriental History at Seoul National
University. He is currently serving as the director of the Institute for History and
Culture at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He has served as the president of
the Historical Society and the president of the Song-Yuan Historical Society. His
main works included The Change of Fujian Society and Food Supply in the Southern
Song Dynasty (2013), A Stampede of Materials by Wang Anshi (2017),
Biography of Wang Anshi (2021), Record of the Words and
Deeds of Song Dynasty Statesmen (translated 2019), and Historical Atlas Series: Atlas Chinese History (co-authored)
(2007).

가칭 ‘Global Southism’라는 ‘우산’ 속에서 Africanism, Orientalism, Latin Americanism이라는 담론을
생태, 정치경제, 거버넌스, 국제보건, 국제개발협력 등의 분과학문 또는 주요 개념을 적용하며 학문적 연결성을 추구하며 연구의 지경을 확대하고 있다.

He obtained his PhD from the University of York in the UK and is currently
conducting research at the Institute of Iberoamerican Studies at Busan University of
Foreign Studies, focusing on the Global South from spatial and temporal
perspectives. Under the tentative umbrella term ‘Global Southism,’ he explores
discourses such as Africanism, Orientalism, and Latin Americanism, applying
interdisciplinary concepts from fields like ecology, political economy, governance,
global health, and international development cooperation to seek academic
connectivity and expand the scope of his research. His notable works include FEALAC

He earned his Ph.D from UCLA's Department of Geography. He is currently a professor
of geography at Gongju National University. He is the president of the Korean
Association of Spatial and the Association of Korean Cultural and Historical
Geographers and studies the concept of space and the environment. He explores
various subjects of cultural geography such as cultural landscape, symbolic
landscape, and the cultural geography of mountains. He wrote many Books including What

After graduating from Hongik University, I am pursuing a master's degree in history
education at Seoul National University College of Education. Currently, I am
interested in the history of the late Roman Empire, specifically the period from the
mid-4th century to the period before the 7th century.
