지구세계연구소장의 전공은 ‘삼라만상 융합학’이다. 서울대학교를 졸업하고 미국 존스홉킨스대학교에서 박사학위를 받았다. 하버드대학교와 하버드-옌칭연구소에서 안식년 연구를 수행했으며, 영국 니덤연구소와 웰컴 의학사연구소에서도 연구했다. 한국사회사학회장을 역임했으며, 아주대학교 재직 시 국내에서 유일한 열대학연구소를 설립했다. 정년퇴임 후에는 지구세계연구소(The Planetary Institute for Global Studies)를 출범시켜 현재 소장을 맡고 있다. 열대 아프리카, 중남미, 동남아시아와 서구의 많은 도시를 넘나들며 현장 탐방과 학문적 탐구를 결합하면서, 지구세계의 다양한 차원을 융복합적으로 사유해 왔다. 저서로는 《아시아의 고려, 中華의 조선》, 《自然史혁명의 선구자들》, 《훔볼트 세계사 - 自然史혁명》, 《열대의 서구, 朝鮮의 열대》, 《난학의 세계사》, 《의학의 세계사》, 《파리식물원에서 데지마 박물관까지》 등이 있으며, 공저로는 《인류세와 기후위기의 大 가속》, 《동양과 서양의 문화교류》가 있고, 번역서로는 원저가 퓰리처 상을 받은 《의학·정치·돈》 있다.

He established tropical studies by exploring and studying tropical regions in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and numerous countries in the West. In The Tropics in the Making of Western Identity" and "Locating Korea in Tropical Studies, he conveyed a key message: "The art and study of the West concealed the tropics." In Western Pioneers of the Natural History Revolution, he discussed natural history from the perspective of the convergence between tropical studies and Western thought. The cultural convergence between Japan, the tropics, and the Netherlands in Tropicalizing Early Modern Japan's Rangaku: A World Geo-History Perspective, and the role of natural history in the formation of Western modernity in "From the Paris Botanic Garden to the Desjima Museum" were elucidated. A World History of Alexander von Humboldt: Interconnecting Natural and Human History focuses on Humboldt and was initially published in East Asia. In The Anthropocene and Global Climate Crisis, he explored planet's natural history from the perspective of the convergence of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. While traveling to Congo several times, he wrote A Converged Exploration of Regional Studies and Humanities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the support of KOICA and the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences (an affiliated organization of the Prime Minister's Office). Currently, he is writing about Korea in Asia and Joseon in China, based on an awareness of the need to establish a Planetary Korean History from the perspective of Planetary Global History. He earned his Ph.D from Johns Hopkins University, and he conducted sabbatical research at Harvard University and the Harvard-Yenching Institute. He also conducted research at the Nidam Research Institute and the Welcome Medical History Institute in the UK, and served as the president of the Korean Social History Institute. After reaching retirement age at Ajou University, he is currently conducting research at various convergence levels as the head of the Global World Research Institute.]

미국 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill에서 응용수학 분야 박사학위 취득 후 국민대학교에서 수학과, 정보보안암호수학과 교수로 재직하면서 응용수학, 정보수학 분야 전공과목을 강의하였으며 생활과 통계, 수학과 문명 등을 강의하면서 인간의 삶 속에서 수학적 사고의 중요성을 탐구하였다. 대한수학회, 한국전산응용수학회, 한국정보처리학회, 미국 AMS, SIAM 회원으로 활동하였다. 국민대학교에서 20년 이상 입시와 관련된 업무를 수행하면서 입학처장과 정보처장 직을 수행하였고 서울경인지역 입학관련처장협의회장 겸 전국 입학관련처장협의회장을 역임하면서 교육에서 입시제도의 영향에 관심을 가졌다. 국민대학교 재직 중 전산 정보 관련 기업체들에 기술자문위원으로 봉사하였고 정년퇴직 후에는 수학이 인류문명의 근간이며 비판적 사고와 창의적 사고가 인간의 삶과 문명 발전에 중요함을 알리는 데에 관심이 있다.

After earning a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he served as a professor in the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Information Security and Cryptography at Kookmin University. He taught specialized courses in applied mathematics and information mathematics, while also exploring the importance of mathematical thinking in human life through courses such as “Life and Statistics” and “Mathematics and Civilization.” He served as a member of the Korean Mathematical Society, the Korean Society for Applied Mathematics, the Korean Information Processing Society, the American Mathematical Society (AMS), and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). While at Kookmin University for over 20 years, he handled admissions-related duties, serving as Director of Admissions and Director of Information. He also served as Chairman of the Seoul-Gyeongin Regional Admissions Directors Council and Chairman of the National Admissions Directors Council, developing an interest in the impact of admissions systems on education. During his tenure at Kookmin University, he served as a technical advisor to companies in the computer and information technology sector. After his retirement, he has been dedicated to promoting the understanding that mathematics is the foundation of human civilization and that critical and creative thinking are essential for human life and the advancement of civilization.

He earned his Ph.D. in English Literature from Texas A&M University. After working as a professor of English at Ewha Women University, he is currently a professor of English at Yonsei University where he teaches modern and contemporary poetry in English and comparative world literatures. He is the author of Out of the Western Box: Towards a Multicultural Poetics in the Poetry of Ezra Pound and Charles Olson and the co-author of Post-Colonialism: Theories and Issues, Understanding Anglo-American Poetry in the Postmodern Era and Understanding Modern and Contemporary Women's Poetry, World Literature beyond Euro-Centrism in English, editor and translator of Bridge across the Seas—Selected Poems of Niyi Osundare, and translator of The World’s Wife, Trouble with Strangers: A Study of Ethics, Nationalism, Colonialism, and Literature, and The Illusions of Postmodernism, etc. Recently he has focused on comparative studies in-between Korean and English modern/modernist poems in the de-centralized global contexts. One of these projects is his forthcoming book—The Complete Poems of Ki-Rim Kim (Vol 1 of The Complete Works of Ki-Rim Kim). Also, as an editor of Global World Literature, he has translated and introduced various writers from English-speaking countries. The Modern British and American Poetry Society of Korea (President 2017-18), Harvard-Yenching Institute(Visiting Scholar 2003-04; Visiting Associate 2012-13, 2019-20), Fulbright Program (Senior Research 2019-20).

He earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Oriental History at Seoul National University. He is currently serving as the director of the Institute for History and Culture at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He has served as the president of the Historical Society and the president of the Song-Yuan Historical Society. His main works included The Change of Fujian Society and Food Supply in the Southern Song Dynasty (2013), A Stampede of Materials by Wang Anshi (2017), Biography of Wang Anshi (2021), Record of the Words and Deeds of Song Dynasty Statesmen (translated 2019), and Historical Atlas Series: Atlas Chinese History (co-authored) (2007).

He earned his Ph.D from UCLA's Department of Geography. He is currently a professor of geography at Gongju National University. He is the president of the Korean Association of Spatial and the Association of Korean Cultural and Historical Geographers and studies the concept of space and the environment. He explores various subjects of cultural geography such as cultural landscape, symbolic landscape, and the cultural geography of mountains. He wrote many Books including What Is a Mountain to Koreans?(co-authored), Humanities of Travel literature(co-authored), Understanding Modern Cultural Geography(co-authored), High Places: Cultural Geographs of Mountains and Ice I.B.Tauris Publishers. (co-authored), and translations include Traces on the Rhodian Shore (Volumes 1-4) (co-translated), Modern Cultural Geography (co-translated), Cultural Politics, and Cultural Wars(co-translated)
